Rob- carrying every day. Doing some physical therapy for my left shoulder. Wrote to my local politicians about constitutional carry.
Rachel – glad the range dried up enough to shoot today! AR, prone and seated, EOTech, 200 yards. A 25-yard zero put me 2.5-3 MOA high. Made ~9” groups, holding low so as to hit center.
why not a 200 yard zero?

2- News 1
Analysis of Obama’s Executive Orders
As his administration stumbles into its last year, Obama faces a faltering economy and failing domestic policy. Obama chose to focus on his despised bitter-clingers, the nation’s law-abiding gun owners.
In Tuesday’s address to the nation, President Obama spent 33 minutes deriding gun owners and mentioned himself 76 times. Obama proposed a series of anti-gun actions his bureaucracy could take on its own. This divisive president once again tried to demonize the gun-lobby, the NRA and the millions of law-abiding gun owners.
The White House provided a fact sheet of Obama’s executive actions. Using that press release along with the transcript of Obama’s address, we’ve analyzed Obama’s Executive Actions. It should be noted that we are working with Obama’s carefully parsed words. It is a virtual certainty that the administration will twist the words to suit their own ends, and we ask you to listen with that in mind. All of us will have to keep an eye on these initiatives and push back strongly where our Rights are threatened.
- Tighten Background Checks
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is making clear that it doesn’t matter where you conduct your business—from a store, at gun shows, or over the Internet: If you’re in the business of selling firearms, you must get a license and conduct background checks.
If you are in the business of selling guns then every sale goes through the FBI NICS background check. Period. End of story. This does not change when in a gun show or a sale at a kitchen table. There is no gun show loophole.
The threat in this executive action could come by a change of the definition. Would the Obama branch prosecute someone supplementing his income with a few well considered purchases and sales, a hobbyist buying new guns and selling the old ones, a gun owner liquidating part of his collection to pay the mortgage, or a widow selling her late husband’s extensive collection? All of them could find themselves running afoul of this new interpretation of a gun dealer. More to the point, these restrictions will not stop the creep selling guns out of the trunk of his car.
- Restrict Trusts and Corporations in the Authorization of Class III purchases.
ATF is finalizing a rule to require background checks for people trying to buy some of the most dangerous weapons and other items through a trust, corporation, or other legal entity.
In an unproven allegation, Obama stated that violent criminals are trying to buy some of the most dangerous firearms by hiding behind trusts and corporations. There is no evidence that thugs spend tens of thousand of dollars buying rare automatic weapons. Obama simply pandered to the uninformed.
- Obtain Complete Criminal History From the States
Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch has sent a letter to States highlighting the importance of receiving complete criminal history.
If this was an issue, why has it not been addressed in the past seven years?
- Make the Background Check System More Efficient
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is overhauling the background check system to make it more effective and efficient. The envisioned improvements include processing background checks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and improving notification of local authorities when certain prohibited persons unlawfully attempt to buy a gun. The FBI will hire more than 230 additional examiners and other staff to help process these background checks.
In our experience, almost every one of the electronic background checks is completed in less than 30 seconds. The system already runs 24 hours a day, including government holidays.
This proposal could make it easier on the smaller FFLs who use the telephone call-in method of FBI verification. Especially since the Top Gun Salesman of All Time keeps driving the public to buy more and more guns. Unfortunately, those additional examiners could also be used to harass legitimate firearms dealers.
Congratulations on the increased notifications to local authorities when there is an unlawful attempt to buy a gun. But, why wasn’t this being aggressively pursued already?
comment- Rob- My local gun dealers find that each ATF agent makes up their own rules.
comment- Gary – Rob, how often does your dealer hand out guns that go over the three days without a response?
- Focus on Smart and Effective Enforcement of Gun Laws
The Attorney General convened a call with U.S. Attorneys around the country to direct federal prosecutors to continue to focus on smart and effective enforcement of our gun laws.
We will soon witness the awesome power of a government meeting. Or not. Under Obama, gun prosecutions have fallen dramatically. So much for smart enforcement.
comment- Rob- We’ve commented before that thugs “borrow” their guns from other gang members, from family, and from welfare girlfriends. The justice department treated them as unreliable witnesses and did not prosecute them.
- 200 More ATF Agents and Investigators
The President’s FY2017 budget will include funding for 200 new ATF agents and investigators to help enforce our gun laws.
That’s roughly $70 million per year for new agents. In a year that includes only the last 4 months of the Obama’s administration. We’re going to bet that the House immediately round-files Obama’s suggestion during the budgeting process.
- Already Established Internet Investigation Center (IIC) and National Integrated Ballistic Integrated Information Network (NIBIIN)
ATF has established an Internet Investigation Center (IIC) to track illegal online firearms trafficking and is dedicating $4 million and additional personnel to enhance the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIIN).
- Guns Lost and Stolen From FFLs
ATF is finalizing a rule to ensure that dealers who ship firearms notify law enforcement if their guns are lost or stolen.
The requirement to report firearms lost or stolen in transit has been an ATF rule for decades. This order will probably create an immediate notification requirement as well as demanding more frequent audits of the FFL’s inventories.
- Renew Domestic Violence Outreach Efforts
The Attorney General issued a memo encouraging every U.S. Attorney’s Office to renew domestic violence outreach efforts.
No real way to tell what this means. However, Federal and State governments have been increasing focusing on pre-crime gun rights restrictions. As in trend-setting California, the Feds would like to eliminate gun rights from someone who could possibly be considered a threat.
- Increase Access to Mental Health Care
The Administration is proposing a new $500 million investment to increase access to mental health care.
This increase is certainly needed and welcome. However, a half a billion won’t make a dent in the mental health needs of Obama, his administration, and the Federal bureaucracy. All snark aside, using mental health concerns, which may be unrelated to violence, biased, overblown or just temporary, to permanently eliminate 2nd Amendment rights is an escalating threat.
- Social Security Issues Eliminating Firearm Rights
The Social Security Administration has indicated that it will begin the rulemaking process to include information in the background check system about beneficiaries who are prohibited from possessing a firearm for mental health reasons.
This order would allow the Social Security Administration to eliminate firearm rights based on an arbitrary definition of incompetence. Many of our nation’s elderly would be stripped of their firearms just when they are at their most vulnerable.
Obama’s Social Security Administration has already tried this dodge. Public and political outrage forced them to quickly withdraw the proposed rule. This rule should certainly be withdrawn again. The similar Veteran Administration regulation should also be eliminated. The bureaucratic, unchallengeable, adjudicated elimination of rights should not be allowed to stand.
- Doctors To Report Mental Health Issues to the FBI
The Department of Health and Human Services is finalizing a rule to remove unnecessary legal barriers preventing States from reporting relevant information about people prohibited from possessing a gun for specific mental health reasons.
This is perhaps the most chilling of all of Obama’s proposals: Doctors would be required to report their suspicions of mental health issues to the FBI. Their patient would then lose his or her 2nd Amendment Rights – forever. With little or no ability to appeal or the right to due process.
The executive order has a host of legal, ethical and professional problems. It intrudes into the formally protected Doctor–Patient relationship and confidentially. MDs without specialized psychiatric training would be forced to make a snap mental health judgements. As doctors under Obamacare are now de-facto employees of the government, they could be coerced to report on the slightest of suspicions, or even be given mental health notification quotas to meet. As the doctor’s license, practice, insurance and career could be put in jeopardy if a patient is not reported as mentally ill, they will be incentivized to over-report. Worst of all, because of Big Brother’s presence in the treatment rooms and the risk of draconian gun seizures, many people will hesitate to get the medical and mental health treatment they need.
- Conduct or Sponsor Research into Gun Safety Technology
The President has directed the Departments of Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security to conduct or sponsor research into gun safety technology.
The Progressive fantasy of smart-gun technology once again rears its ugly head. Obama even compared this fanciful technology to the fingerprint readers on smart phones. Considering that phones are treated a lot more gently than guns – and the phone’s fingerprint readers don’t work all that well – that is a very poor comparison.
And given that the government will likely require a disabling backdoor to be installed in the software, this is an extremely blatant assault on the 2nd Amendment. This proposal could only come from someone used to being protected by guards with hair triggers.
Rob- Let’s put a fingerprint reader on the President’s cigarette case and let him beta test it for us.
- Regular reviews of Smart Gun technology
The President has also directed the departments to review the availability of smart gun technology on a regular basis, and to explore potential ways to further its use and development to more broadly improve gun safety.
In his address, Obama also called for tracking devices to be placed in guns. Hundreds of people, including two American law-enforcement agents, could be alive if those devices only been added to the guns Obama and Eric Holder sold to the Mexican drug cartels. Giving the government the ability to determine where the guns are – well, that couldn’t possibly go wrong… right?
Obama also called for child resistant triggers. This laughable goal is one more indication of just how far the man’s thinking differs from average Americans and the Founding Fathers. He certainly would not want child resistant triggers on the guns that protect him.
- Congress Called to Support the President’s Demands
Congress should support the President’s request for resources for 200 new ATF agents and investigators to help enforce our gun laws, as well as a new $500 million investment to address mental health issues.
Hopefully, the Congress will be in no mood to support these dangerous fantasies.
- Urge manufacturers, retailers, and other private-sector leaders to explore what more they can do.
Because we all must do our part to keep our communities safe, the Administration is also calling on States and local governments to do all they can to keep guns out of the wrong hands and reduce gun violence. It is also calling on private-sector leaders to follow the lead of other businesses that have taken voluntary steps to make it harder for dangerous individuals to get their hands on a gun. In the coming weeks, the Administration will engage with manufacturers, retailers, and other private-sector leaders to explore what more they can do.
This last pronouncement is a reminder of the power of the government; the iron fist in the velvet glove. The Obama administration has been very active in using the coercive power of government to affect their goals. Actions like Operation Choke Point have hampered lawful activities that the administration found objectionable. This type of extra-legal coercion should be called out and resisted.
Why did he say it?
President Obama’s policies have already increased crime across the United States. These executive orders won’t change how criminals get guns. Reducing violence was NOT the purpose of his public speech and his executive orders.
President Obama’s new gun restrictions would not have stopped any of the dozen recent mass murderers. That is true even if President Obama’s orders are perfectly implemented and perfectly executed. Reducing domestic terrorism was NOT the purpose of these new executive orders.
We don’t have a gun problem in America. Violence is the symptom, not the cause of our ills. We have a Democrat problem, not a gun law problem. Our large failing Democrat controlled cities have crushed jobs, fueled addiction, broken families and encouraged drug gangs. You can’t solve those problems with gun control.
The public has changed their attitude towards politicians. We don’t believe the president any longer. Even the Associate Press pointed out that Obama’s executive orders would not have stopped the terrorism we’ve seen here in the US. Gun control advocates have a real problem once they’ve lost the Associated Press. The Minnesota Star Tribune said the same thing. President Obama had other purposes in mind.
If the president’s orders would not stop crime or terrorism, why did Obama blame guns and gun owners? The reason is political. Democrat politicians can count. They take polls and count potential voters. This week’s NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found 73 percent of likely voters want the next president to take a different approach from President Obama’s.
Democrat politicians also count political donations. Democrats needed to do something to increase their voter appeal given Obama’s consistent domestic policy and foreign policy failures. The political play to gun control was focus group tested and tailored to appeal to a particular voting block. Young single urban women are the largest segment who supports Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton. Democrats need that demographic to go to the polls in record number. They need young women to vote for Clinton, and carry other Democrats on her coat tails.
The other reason Obama pushed gun control is money. The reason is campaign contributions in particular. Democrats supported ineffective anti-gun bills because billionaires promised to bankroll disarmament Democrats. Follow the money.
Comment- how do the democrats appeal to young women if they have Bill Clinton in the spotlight?
Rachel- I apologize for the irrational actions of my demographic.
What was the reaction to the president’s executive orders?
Clever pundits pointed out that the federal government broke their own gun laws by sending guns to mexican drug lords.
The reaction divided along party lines. The Oakland California city council proposed more firearms restrictions on civilians. They proposed magazine capacity restrictions and stricter storage requirements. We’ve reported on those proposals before and how they are ineffective in reducing crime or reducing the vanishingly small number of firearms accidents. Again, the purpose is political.
The Governor of Idaho signed emergency legislation nullifying federal firearms restrictions by prohibiting state enforcement of any future federal act relating to personal firearms, a firearm accessories or ammunition. A similar bill was proposed in Arizona last week. Alaska and Kansas already passed similar laws. State legislators proposed constitutional carry in Louisiana, Virginia and Idaho. An Oklahoma legislator proposed the Piers Morgan act to allow open carry without a license.
The NRA reported that over 7 million convicted felons are NOT reported to the FBI background check system. Most mental health patients are not reported to the FBI. Last year, 80 thousand individuals were denied firearms purchases due to prior convictions. Yet, only 44 individuals were prosecuted last year.
Comment-Paul – you said 44 people, not 44 thousand?
That is right. 44 people out of 80 thousand were prosecuted for seeking to buy guns as prohibited persons. That is less than one sixteenth of one percent. That is a broken system of federal law enforcement.
Comment- Obama’s speech was written for the media and the low information voter who had never bought a gun. If you’d ever gone through the purchase process then you know the speech was full of lies.
Paul – Obama tweet
-Candidate Hillary Clinton said she applauded the President’s new push, but warned any executive action was likely to fall short of the comprehensive reforms favored by most Democrat donors. Quote “We’ve got to act, but I don’t think (what the President did is) enough and I think we’re going to have to keep pushing forward on the political front and I intend to do that, to take on the gun lobby and to work with responsible gun owners.” Close quote.
Rob- His comments remind me of a soap opera speech.
Paul – tears
-Congressional committees said they would not fund Department of Justice activities that violated the second amendment rights of US citizens. That certainly sounds good. The letter from congress lacks credibility after the House and Senate just funded every piece of pork that Congressman Ryan and Senator McConnell could dream up.
Obama’s Anti-Gun Push Causes Gunmaker’s Stocks to — Shoot Up!
The Stock Market has reacted to Obama’s anti-gun efforts and now believes that the gun maker’s profitability will… (wait for it)… shoot up! In a terribly down market, publicly traded firearm maker’s stock prices increased strongly after Obama’s tear-stained tantrum. Smith and Wesson’s stock price rose 12% in one day. Traders are expecting the public to once again rush to gun stores to buy the product Obama is railing against. Call the increase in gun sales the usual unexpected consequences of the administration’s efforts.
Looks like the Stock Market is just one more entity that doesn’t believe Obama can be effective in anything.
Writing in The Washington Post, Ann Brown, who served as chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission during Bill Clinton’s presidency asked obama to regulate ammunition.
Comment- Rob- Candidate Gavin Newsom from California wanted background checks for ammunition sales. We consume some 8 billion rounds a year. Who, besides a democrat politician, thinks their laws will restrict criminals from getting bullets?
3- News 3
Obama’s speech was written for the media. That means it was pre-digested into small sound bites the media could broadcast without editing or explanation. Sometimes life delivers lessons that even the media can understand. Take the old phrase that when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser called a press conference along with DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier. They announced a new police task force to fight robberies. The car carrying the news crew from TV station ABC-7 was parked within a few hundred feet of the press conference and within sight of the podium. Robbers broke the car windows and stole equipment while the new task force was being announced.
Comment- But Chief Lanier said the police are there to protect us?
Comment- The Chief lied.
Comment- Another life lesson for the DC media
Comment- and the mayor and police chief.
Google- YouTube had a fit of political correctness and pulled the popular channel Hickok45. That firearms channel has almost 2 million subscribers. The channel was back up a day later.
News from the other California
The Anderson high school district is in California, but an astute student would ask which California. The city of Anderson is about a hundred miles from the Oregon border, and a world away from San Francisco and Los Angeles. Yes, the California legislature passed a law making it illegal for licensed concealed carriers to carry on campus. The school district dug into the law and found that they could let concealed carriers on campus with written permission. District officials gave permission for their staff with concealed carry permits to carry on campus. When news crews asked students, the students said they were glad the staff and teachers were armed.
Anderson police chief Mike Johnson wasn’t part of the school’s decision, but he supports having armed staff. Quote- “It is definitely a plus to have armed, responsible people who have been vetted and can actually provide another layer of protection for the kids. That’s the bottom line, if it provides more protection for our children, how can you be against it?
“We need the help of the citizens, we need communities to participate. I think it’s absolutely a step in the right direction. I’ve advocated for several years that a lot of these campuses, and college campuses, in particular should have armed people on campus and should have CCW holders at least with access to weapons if they need them. Close quote.
More guns means less crime
We hear about crime in America’s large Democrat controlled cities all the time. Yet you probably didn’t hear about america’s 6th largest city. Phoenix, Arizona has struggled like the rest of America in the Obama economy. Arizona is called the best state for gun owners, yet Phoenix had the lowest number of murders in 30 year. The rate of murder in Phoenix is 57 percent lower than in Chicago, Illinois. That is despite the crazy gun laws in Chicago, Illinois.
-A 72-hour waiting period for handguns and a 24-hour waiting period for long guns.
-A requirement for a state issued ID card to purchase or possess a firearm and ammunition.
-a locked storage requirement when you move your gun.
-Firearm sellers are required to provide a gun lock.
-Illinois Firearms seller are required to keep a record of their sale for at least 10 years.
Yet, Chicago is the Murder Capital of America with the greatest number of murders .. and it gets more dangerous each year.
Phoenix shows declining murder rates at the same time.
Open carry texas.. and no one noticed
Pictures of holstered guns suddenly appeared on New Years Day. This wasn’t a late christmas with everyone showing off the holsters they received from Santa. Facebook was alive with pictures.. as Texas went open carry. And.. nothing happened. You can take off your boots and go back to wearing flip-flops again. There is no river of blood flooding the streets. Nothing happened. A few stores put up signs saying they don’t want our business. Most of those will come down in a few weeks. What was unusual, if you call it that, was that open carry did NOT draw comments. Yawn.
That is a good thing. It shows that gun owners are our neighbors. We’re a trusted part of the community. We’re everywhere whether we carry open or carry concealed. The good news is that the acceptance of open carry is another way responsible firearms owners are reclaiming the American culture.
Thank you, and carry on.
Comment- Some churches are coming to grips with open and concealed carry.
Comment- Paul- Then there is Waffle House that always said they don’t want our money.
Comment- Rob- The Democrat Party in Texas was selling Texas 30.07 no-guns signs for 7 dollars each.
Comment- Rachel- I’m glad it isn’t a big deal. I want guns to be normal, not shocking. I like having a gun open, but I don’t want it to be the most prominent thing people notice about me. It should fit in just like any other accessory. I don’t want gun-carrying to be my identity; rather, I want to show that a gun can fit naturally and unobtrusively into anyone’s identity.
More gun sales
The preliminary records are in for 2015. We had over 23 million background checks which was a 10 percent increase over the old record set in 2013. Some states do not require a background check for every sale, so the corrected number of firearms sold is closer to 25 million. To offer you some perspective, combining law enforcement with the US armed forces is only three million people full time equivalent. The firearms purchased by US civilians could re-arm them eight times over.. each year.
Comment Rob- ‘Merica, that is what I say.
Comment- Paul- President Obama deserves the gun salesman of the year award.. again.
There are police officers and then there are police officers
Training documents for Chicago Aviation officers were recently released to the public. The officers are told to run and hide in case of an armed criminals or terrorists in Chicago’s Midway and O’hare airports. The officers are disarmed even though they go through the same police academy and are considered as sworn officers by the city. A training video says, “If evacuation is not possible, you should find a place to hide where the active shooter is less likely to find you. Block entry to your hiding place and lock the door.” close quote.
Doesn’t that make you feel safer as you change planes in Chicago?
comment- rob- There has been ongoing friction between the armed chicago police and the disarmed aviation police. The armed chicago cops treat the aviation police like rent-a-cops even though they are city employees and attended the same academy.
Well that is a different opinion
The Seattle City council banned knives in public. Of course, the city was sued, and the Washington state Supreme Court ruled there is no constitutional right to carry a knife in public. Justice Charles Wiggins said neither the state constitution nor the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution blocks the city law against carrying knives. Quote “While almost any common object may be used as a weapon, that does not necessarily mean that possession of otherwise innocuous objects that could be wielded with malice will trigger the constitutional protections afforded to ‘arms.’” That decision directly contradicts the ruling in 2014 from the Connecticut supreme court that ruled knives and batons are arms, and so protected by the right to bear arms and the second amendment.
Comment- Rob- don’t trust judges to do the right thing
Comment- Gary- donate to knife rights
Comment- Paul- elections have consequences.. like appointing partisan judges to the bench.
Comment- Rachel- Washington gun owners were inactive and let these laws stand. Now they have the difficult task of overturning them. You snooze you lose.
And …from the great Thomas Sowell: “Reality does not disappear because we don’t see it. It just hits us like a ton of bricks when we least expect it.”
Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our guest (Name).
4- Interview 1
Gary Slider is the research arm of http://www.Handgunlaw.us. He has been traveling with a gun for 30 years.
Maine does NOT have constitutional carry. You need a maine permit to carry in some of their parks. Maine does not recognize non resident permits. Open carry is not permitted in their state parks. The maine laws are so complicated that many gun owners will inadvertently violate Maine’s laws. If they are complicated by our standards, then they are beyond many law enforcement officers.
Virginia requires that reciprocal states provide 24-7 verification that your out of state license is valid. There were NO documented cases where an out of state license holder committed a crime in Virginia. Check at http://www.vcdl.org/
1- Katie and Matt Klaxon were parked at a Springfield, Missouri gas station. Their four children were in the car. Matt was pumping gas when a stranger approached Katie who was still sitting in the car. The stranger opened the car door and threatened Katie with a large knife. Katie called for Matt who then drew his Beretta pistol and told the man to leave. The assailant said Quote “You’re lucky he has a gun,” as he closed the car door and backed away. The Klaxon’s called police and kept an eye on the man who tried to open other car doors. He was arrested, though no charges have yet been filed.
Comments- Condition white. Unaware of an intruder. I can’t figure out why the man didn’t shoot. The woman was in immediate danger from a lethal threat. I’m thinking the time for words is over.
comment- Perhaps the man didn’t see the knife.
Rob- Stopped mass murder.
2- 100 pound grandma stops thug (Oh, carp – I duplicated this with my Don’t Torque off the Old Gal segment. (the last DGU.) Use one or the other. Dan)
A 65 year old Manchester, New Hampshire woman stopped to buy gasoline. She had just gotten out of work at 11:30 pm. She noticed a dark colored sedan following her as she drove home to her apartment. She parked as close to her building as possible. She heard footsteps behind her as she hurried to her apartment stairway. The mugger ran in front of her blocking her bath. He grabbed her. The grandmother then drew her pistol and shot the man in the chest. He ran. The old woman retreated into her building and called police. The mugger and his accomplice drove to a nearby hospital where police were waiting.
The woman’s firearm was taken as evidence by police. She has her concealed carry permit. The Mayor of Manchester called the woman to ask if she felt safe without her gun. She said a neighbor had already loaned her one.
comment- rob- A neighbor loaned a gun to a 65 year old grandma with a carry permit? Oh, the Horror! I hope they are both prosecuted for not undergoing a mandatory background check. We need another law.. NOT!
Rachel-she noticed….she parked close….she heard….
3- Armed Florida Man Invades Home – and is Shot and Killed
On New Years Day, an armed man invaded a Lakeland, Florida home and shot at the two residents inside. He was shot and killed by the homeowner for his trouble. The criminal’s were the only injuries.
Chevez Antwann Fiason, 24, had violent history and had just been paroled from prison in March 2015. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd had little compassion for the thief. “Forcing your way into an occupied residence is a bold and foolish decision – if you are foolish enough to break into someone’s home, you can expect to be shot in Polk County.”
Oddly enough, the homeowner is not expected to be charged.
4- Teenager Killed Robbing a Home
A Columbus, Ohio resident was forced to defend his life during a home-invasion robbery. Police found 18-year-old Amir Kirby dead inside the home. The home owner was questioned by detectives and stated that he was defending his life when he shot the teen.
The home owner has not been charged.
5- Father and Son Fight Off Three Attackers — With a Gun
A father and son found themselves is an early morning fight for their lives when three attackers busted-in their Columbus, Nebraska door. The three were armed with a hammer and a sap and immediately attacked the residents. Both men were injured by blows to the face and repeatedly choked. The attack continued until the father was able to free himself and get his pistol from his bedroom.
The thieves fled rather than face a gun. The father pursued the men into the alley and fired several shots into the escape vehicle “to mark it”. (This was very much not a good idea.) Police arrived to investigate and shortly took both victims to the hospital. The investigation continues and police are asking the community for help in solving the crime. Charges have not been leveled against either man.
The men lived in a beautiful neighborhood, across from a golf course and a park. Now, both men are now planning to take a CCW class next month. As the son said; “People need to go back to being Americans and not only stand up for themselves, but our police officers, our friends, our families, our neighbors, our people we don’t know next to us you know, gives us a fighting chance.”
Paul – Pants on gun on
6- Armed thief shot at South Florida Restaurant
An ex convict walked into a south florida restaurant wearing a mask and carrying a gun. The same man had been observed by other shop owners in the area as the thief looked for security cameras before the robbery. Then the thief entered Captain Max Seafood restaurant in a Miami suburb. The thief demanded money and the store clerk argued with him. That is when the clerk presented his own firearm and shot the thief. The thief died at the scene. The criminal was convicted of two weapons charges in 2007 and convicted for armed carjacking in 2008. He was released from prison in October of this year.
comment-Rob- are you arguing in order to talk the thief out of robbing the store.. or are you arguing as a distraction because you’ve already decided to use deadly force and are waiting for your best chance?

I enjoy the show. I learn a lot though, sometimes there are things that are unclear because I don’t have the experience or the exposure to the far end of the gun culture.
Having said all that, I know you will talk about the speech the President gave. I don’t know why all the various groups are making such a fuss about what he plans to do.
If you believe him, he has the right to change or enforce new gun restrictions regardless of what the various states want.
For a moment let’s say he is right. If he is able to make all the changes he has proposed, it would only bring the rest of the nation in line with what we have in California.
But that’s exactly the problem.
Yeah that’s right …. you will have the same “rights” that we have, lucky you. Mandatory limited/small capacity mags and altered versions of what firearms were meant to be, can’t believe we can have a different version of a pistol because it has an ambidextrous safety, shouldn’t that make it more safe? See what you have to look forward to..
This should be one of the biggest reasons to show others why we cannot let anyone take us down that path.
The two comments Obama made that stuck in my mind were,
Even if these changes can’t stop the next mass shooting, we still need to do something to try.
It happens in the streets of Chicago.
Not sure how his ideas will change a nation if he couldn’t change just one city when he was from there. And since we have this in Calif, it didn’t stop San Bernardino.
Forget that he is making doctors become cops to learn about guns. I have a son who is limited in his vision, he has a good job and lives on his own. He talks about wanting something for his apartment, a pistol wouldn’t be a good choice, a shotgun might be better. Could you imagine his doctor having to fill out a report about the blind man who has a shotgun?
I would like to hear the thoughts from the group about a national gun law. If what Obama is doing is in fact legal couldn’t a more gun friendly president make a less restrictive law that would help out those of us in place like CA or NJ. Take the best state law, add something that might actually work for safety, then make it nation wide.
Do a Google search about the six year old hockey fan from Canada that was put on the no fly list, and was stopped while trying to go to Boston for a New Years Day hockey game.
This email was long enough, next time I will include my wife’s meatloaf recipe
comment- rob- I like the way he thinks. If an anti-gun president can impose new gun laws then a pro-rights president can impose gun rights.
Rob- will the left stop?
Rachel- we don’t want government working out of its proper jurisdiction, whether for good or for bad. If it’s for good, that might help us short-term. It will kill us long-term since it involves us forgoing the moral high ground.

Thanks much for your comments and suggestions. We’re always hungry for the type of thoughtful feedback you generously provided.
“Back to the kitchen, toots” were my words and I take full responsibility for them. The intent was not to demean women, but to specifically snark Shannon Watts and her Moms Demand Action organization. I’ve no love for the Bloomberg shills portraying themselves as housemakers forced to publicly demand gun control. Their posing is a fraudulent as their message.
I can say that I’m a strong supporter of women as full and essential members of Gun Culture 2.0. I’ve volunteered to instruct or help at many New Shooter Introduction events, as well as the NRA’s First Shots, Refuse to be a Victim and Women on Target classes. At my fun-sized job at the Ye ol’ Gun Shoppe, I take great pride in introducing women to the shooting sports and armed self-defense. And I’ve even been able to get the wife into shooting and self-defense, although the Ferguson riots a few miles away didn’t hurt either.
That being said, my snark could certainly be interpreted as a slam against all women. However unintentional, it must be considered a negligent discharge, and I sincerely apologize to all for the slight.
Thank you again for the feedback. Let’s both keep working to introduce and incorporate women into America’s gun culture.

Dear Paul, Rob, John, Rachel and Susan,
I began listening to your podcast about a year ago and I can’t wait for each new episode. I really enjoy the different personalities and points of view.
I am writing as you asked for emails and I wanted to offer a recent shooting experience. I have been shooting for about 20 years ever since my mother took me to a basic pistol class when I was a teenager. I enjoy shooting a wide variety of guns but especially Smith and Wesson revolvers in 357 mag. A week or so ago a friend and I were at our local range and I recognized another gentleman I have shared the range with before. He had three younger (mid to late teens) folks who he was teaching to shoot. One of the young men was shooting a 1911 and I watched him shoot with his weak thumb crossed over behind the slide. He didn’t get hurt but the teacher was with another student and didn’t notice. I gently showed him how to hold his thumbs away from the slide and he eagerly received the advice and thanked me. I offered to let him shoot my magnum but he was a little intimidated since I was shooting some pretty hot hand loads. I switched over to some 38spec wadcutters and he put 6 rounds within 2 inches at 25 feet. He was so happy it was like Christmas and I gladly gave him the target. I also thanked the instructor for getting new shooters involved. I think we not only need to encourage new shooters but also help and thank those that do put themselves out there and take inexperienced shooters to the range. As teachers yourselves, success can be measured in smiles. Keep up the good work and thank you for all you do. If your travels ever bring you through Columbus, Ohio, I would be happy to go shooting with any or all of you.
rob- David, I want a million more ambassadors like you.

You guys were talking about online pistol courses in your recent podcast. I am an NRA instructor and had a conversation a few months ago with the NRA training folks about a “blended” course they were introducing soon where students can complete some portion of the course online and then take the instructor-led portion in person.
Before I could check the website this morning I received an email from the NRA stating they will be rolling out the blended basic pistol course in the first quarter of 2016!
I may not represent the opinion of the “old school” instructors but I see this as a good move. A lot of people can’t commit 8 hours to a training course but they can commit half of that, and as I’m in the belly of the beast (CA) I’m looking forward to teaching a couple of these courses next year and creating more safe shooters.

Hi & Happy New Year.
I enjoy listening to your show. Thanks for all you do.
I live in the people’s republic of NY. Fortunately, I’m about four hours away from NY city and many of my neighbors are gun owners. I have a couple of shotguns, 22’s and pistols. My EDC is a 40 cal. I am looking for an alternative to an AR-15, since they are illegal here. I have looked at the Ruger Mini 14, but am also considering a lever action in 357, since I have a couple of 357 pistols. Your thoughts and recommendations?
Rob- Hi, Mark. The mini-14 is a fine choice. So is the New York compliant Black Rain Ordnance. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/04/03/heres-what-it-looks-like-when-a-gun-manufacturer-releases-a-new-york-compliant-ar-15/

Holy crapola that was a great story about the Craigslist contractor-thief! I had chills during it when we didn’t know if the author was about to get attacked by his own gun.
I too am incredibly proud of the author for his cool head and decisions, I’m not sure I could have handled it as well as he did. But I like to open carry my full sized M&P CORE, so the bad guy probably wouldn’t try me in the first place. wink emoticon
Thanks again for the show, loved the year wrap up, and make sure you’re 1000% politically correct at every moment! *eye roll*

(P.S. I hope Susan reads this so I can hear her say “holy crapola” on air; twice.) 😂😆
Paul: Rob, do you have any new posts from your SlowFacts blog you want to mention?
We would like to thank Charlie Foxtrot for writing up show notes for us. Even though you don’t hear him on the air he is certainly part of what you do hear. Look at his blog at not one more gun law dot blogspot dot com
Paul: That wraps up another episode of the Polite Society Podcast. I’d like to thank (Guests) for joining us today. So for Charlie Foxtrot, Gary, Rob, Rachel and Susan,
