Show intro music.

Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- Went shooting with some new friends.  Signed up for the Texas Firearms Festival that is going on next week.  I also registered for a training course in two weeks.  I joined Dan and Cheryl Todd on their program Gun Freedom Radio out of Phoenix, Arizona.

John – I booked my room and flight to Las Vegas for the 2016 SHOT Show. I got some great advice on places to stay from Gary. Even with an upgraded room, I came in hundreds less than if I stayed on the LV Strip. I figure that could pay for a lot of taxi rides or even a visit to the Machine Gun Experience in LV. Now to start looking for a place to stay at the NRA Annual Meeting. For those looking for a place to stay, fellow blogger Tom at Daddy Bear’s Den has a guide on where to stay in Louisville – and where not to stay.

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

Paul/Susan – Working a lot. Registration is now open for the MAG 40 and we are off to a good start.

Promo about upcoming training classes here.

2- News 1

2-1 Thug’s family complains with the help of the Washington Post

After a long criminal record, Reginald Gildersleeve was just turning his life around.. again.  Last week we covered the defensive gun use where Gildersleeve wore a mask, walked into a small grocery store in Chicago, pulled a gun, and announced a robbery.  A concealed carry holder in the market fired several shots at Gildersleeve.  Now the criminal’s family says he didn’t deserve to die.. and why did he have to be shot more than once.  Their comments are getting play at the Washington Post.  The family says someone has to pay now that their brother’s been shot.

For the foggy journalists near foggy bottom, here are the rules.  If you dress like a thief with a mask over your face, act like a thief, and sound like a thief, then you will be treated like a thief.  If you look like you’re putting people’s lives in immediate danger with a weapon, then you can be shot and killed.. even if your family thinks you’re about to turn your life around.. again.

To be precise, the criminal was not shot too many times.  He was shot until he was no longer a threat.  Those are the same criteria used in either a civilian shooting or a police shooting.  Those are the real rules used in the real world.  Too bad the Washington Post is in its own little world.

CF – Mas Ayoob teaches that the most unloved, despised, waste-of-skin converted to room temperature in a righteous situation will have family members that haven’t wanted to see him in decades him rushing to court claiming harm and wanting justice. The type of justice that can only be had by folding money.   BTW: The CCW carrier will not be charged in the shooting. A good shoot – even in Chicagoland.

John – When you work in a building with security guards…

2-2 Ha-Ooooo, a sub-gun in London

Anti-rights gun grabbing politicians here in the US say we should adopt European models of gun regulation to make America safer.  Really?  Fully automatic firearms were outlawed in England in 1936.  Semi-automatic rifles and shotguns were banned in 1988.  England outlawed handguns in 1996.  That means an automatic loading gun firing a pistol caliber cartridge has been outlawed in England for at least the last 80 years.  Yet three police officers in London were shot at by a criminal who had a submachine gun.

Gary- You mean criminals don’t obey gun laws?

Paul- No, Gary.(snicker) Thugs don’t obey gun laws any more than they obey the laws against robbery and assault. (chuckle)

Gary- Someone had better let our chicago politicians know that gun control doesn’t work.. even in England.

John- The weapon could have been a glock 18, and that model pistol has been around for 30 years.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the British Bobbies who have to work on the crazy streets, and for the crazy politicians, of London, England.

Gary- I bet the British haven’t tried gun buy backs like Chicago.

Gary- That is called sarcasm, you guys.

2-3 Guns, Guns for sale.. from your local cop shop

It is hard to take the idea of gun control very seriously.  The anti-self-defense gun grabbers claim we could disarm honest gun owners and then criminals wouldn’t have any guns.  That might make sense if you only spent a second reading the headlines, but it is a failed idea if you read the next story.  Shotguns and handguns issued to police have turned up missing in an audit of the rural town of  Memphis, Michigan.  The small police department has had four chiefs in five years.

Criminals don’t stand in line for a background check.  They “borrow” a legal gun from a relative or another gang member.  Stolen guns are only 10 to 15 percent of the guns used in crime, but with a quarter million guns stolen each year, it is is foolish to imagine that criminals don’t have access to firearms.

John – I have read about “community” guns hidden in bad neighborhoods.

2-4  Where do thugs get their guns?

We talked about the gangs in Chicago, and how they borrowed their guns from friends and family members.  Let’s look a little deeper into that, and ask why the friends and family of the thugs are not prosecuted for giving guns to criminals. The gangs in Oakland use their single-mother girlfriends to buy guns.  The reason is simple.  Oakland prosecutors don’t want “baby mama drama” in the courtroom, so the women were rarely if ever prosecuted for straw purchases.

The same thing happened in Georgia where a 26 year old woman bought a pistol, spare magazine and ammunition for her felon boyfriend.  The boyfriend then murdered a pregnant female police officer.  The straw purchaser was sentenced to half a year of home confinement and parole.  That is why thugs get guns in broken Democrat cities.

The contrast could not be sharper when compared to the Pennsylvania police officer who bought a handgun for his father-in-law using his police discount.  The officer then had his father in law go through a background check at a licensed gun dealer.  The officer was sentenced to 5 years probation because it was considered a straw purchase. The Supreme Court of the United States agreed with the prosecutor.

This is why the NRA says we don’t need more laws, but need to apply the laws that exist fairly and quickly.

John – Tell me again how so-called universal background checks are going to keep thugs from getting guns.

2-5 Drug Enforcement Agency says drugs more dangerous than guns

The US Drug Enforcement Agency released a report on the dangers of drugs and self-medication.  They reported that 44 thousand people died from non-prescription drug overdose, and an additional 22 thousand died from overdose with prescription drugs.  That far exceeds the rate for fatalities from motor vehicles, drunk driving, and accidental falls.  Gun homicide and gun accidents barely made it onto the list of relevant risks.

Rob- I dislike Governor Chris Christie, but the Governor said we need to treat addicts with compassion and medical care, not with stiffer prison sentences.

Gary- Ok, so where are the billionaires funding drug treatment?

Paul- (Crickets)  No, they only want to disarm honorable citizens.

3-  News 2

3-1 Thank them when the media gets it right

We criticize the media when they get the story wrong about citizen self-defense.  That means we also have to say “thank you” when the media gives us fair coverage.  The Blaze wrote an article about the pro-rights organization, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.  They quoted both Rabbi David Bendory and executive director Charles Heller.  Heller said, “The purpose of our organization is plain and simple: to destroy gun control. Gun control is poison, [its] that simple.”  Rabbi Bendory said self-defense and owning firearms are an inherently Jewish value.  Quote “God has given you the precious gift of life, and just like any precious gift, you have the responsibility to care for that and treat it with the proper respect… while initiating violence is not ever an appropriate thing to do, violence when used in defense of self is not only righteous, but a required responsibility.”

The Blaze asked executive director Heller why so many jews support gun control.  He said, “Jews tend to be legalistic…we tend to be law obeyers and tend to rely on law rather than rely on force, that’s just the way we’re oriented.. Most jews grow up outside a gun culture.”  Bendory added “There’s this stereotype of redneck, anti-Semitic gun owners.  Jews are very surprised by what they found [after I take them to a shooting range.]”

It is always good to hear from JPFO, and thank you to The Blaze for a fair interview.

Gary –

Rob- I’m reading Loesh’s book, Hands off My Guns

John – I just was reading about the IDF and was struck how multi-cultural it is.

3-2 What is an elitist anti-rights billionaire to do?

We talked about the money in politics last week.  You could argue that there is too much money in politics.. or too little money invested in political campaigns.  What you can’t argue is that anti-rights billionaire Michael Bloomberg has invested tens of millions of dollars to buy politicians.  Any sharp investor knows that a politician is worth much more when his party is in the majority.  Bloomberg helped put Democrat McAuliffe (MC-CALL-IF) into the Virginia Governor’s seat.  Bloomberg spent millions trying to turn the Virginia Senate from a Republican majority to Democrat control.  Despite his multi-million dollar spending spree on two state senate seats, Bloomberg failed in last week’s election.  The Virginia Senate remains in Republican hands as Republicans retained all of their seats.  This is important so that both houses can block Governor McAuliffe’s anti-gun regulations in Virginia.

John- Bloomberg has a terrible record at buying politicians.  He lost the Colorado Senate seat and the Milwaukee Sheriff’s race to name a few.

Gary- He bought some of the Colorado Senate, and he bought the Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper.

Rob- Money talks, but so does citizen activism.

John – You forgot the attorney general of PA.

Extra- 3-2

-Four Wisconsin Democrats proposed sweeping firearms regulations last week.  Their bill would outlaw most semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols.  The Wisconsin Assemblymen released a long list of cosmetic features they want outlawed on firearms.  There is no grandfather clause, so existing firearms would have to be turned in or the owner imprisoned.  At the same time that there is federal legislation to legalize firearms mufflers, this legislation would outlaw any gun with a threaded barrel that could accept a muffler.

-A New York Democrat Congresswoman proposed a bill in the House of Representatives that would add a one hundred dollar tax on every firearm sold.  The congresswoman admitted it was a way to keep guns out of the hands of poor people.

We conclude these democrats agree with Democrat Senator Hillary Clinton and Democrat Governor Martin O’Malley.. and think gun-grabs will get them elected.  Well that didn’t work in Virginia, now did it.

-Who knew, but Oregon is still a state for gun lovers.  Coos County Oregon just passed a pro-gun initiative with a 60 percent majority of the vote.  The initiative declared any state or federal infringement on gun owners to be void.  The initiative also stops the county from spending any money on enforcement of gun control laws.. like the mandatory background check law the Oregon legislature passed this year.  Well done.

3-3 How is that gun-free zone working for you, Governor Jerry Brown?

Faisal Mohammad brought a knife to school at the Merced campus of the University of California.  Mohammad stabbed two students until a construction worker, who was working on campus, pulled Mohammad away.  The construction worker had to kick Mohammad repeatedly to avoid being stabbed again.  Mohammad then ran outside the classroom building and stabbed a female student advisor.  Mohammad ran again and was shot by campus police.

The construction worker said being in a knife fight changed his opinion on concealed carry.  He wishes he had a concealed firearm when the mass stabbing unfolded.  It was almost exactly a month ago when California Jerry Brown signed a law banning concealed carry on campus.  I doubt that new law makes any of the school staff or parent of a student feel safer.  It looks like Mohammad didn’t obey the gun free zone sign either.

Rob- Several unconfirmed law enforcement sources in Merced say the assailant was on a terrorist watch list.  The islamic terror group ISIS praised his attack.  It looks like federal, state and local law enforcement let Mohammad attack students while Governor Brown disarmed both students and staff on campus.

John- Elections have consequences but I fear the voters of California won’t heed this message.

News 3

4-1 NYT gets it wrong.. again and again

The New York Times reported that licensed concealed carry holders have killed almost a thousand people other than in self-defense over the last eight years.  The Times has used that number before.. and been corrected before.  How did the Times get their story so wrong.. so many times?

The Times takes its statistics from the Bloomberg funded Violence Policy Center.  The Times list of murderers also included any concealed carry holder who committed suicide, even if they did not use a gun to take their own life.  The Times did not include the fact that licensed concealed carry holders are 60 percent less likely to commit suicide than their peers.  They counted any self-defense homicide by a license holder as a murder until the case was adjudicated as self-defense.  The Times also added up each news report of a homicide, so a single shooting might be counted three or four times.

Using that method, a justified single defensive gun use might be counted as a murder each time it is in the papers, and only counted as self-defense one time when the grand jury gives their report.

The Times has been corrected several times before.. but they are not interested in using the truth when a lie serves their purpose of smearing honest and honorable firearms owners.

John – If they ever make a correction, you have to search to find it.

Gary –

Paul- The Zimmerman case must have been worth 200 or so murders

4-2 Self-defense news matters, because the media DOESN’T cover it.

This is our chance to thank our listeners.  We hear about it when a crazy murderer shoots children.  The media covers that event for hour after hour, and day after day.  Then the media and the gun-grabbers say we should ban guns because guns only hurt people.  This actually sounds reasonable to the average TV viewer because they get their news from the mainstream media, and the media never mentions the examples where guns save lives.  That is the pernicious bias of the news media against gun owners.  Let’s set the record straight.

This month, John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center collected 21 examples of legal gun owners using their firearm for self-defense.  Each example was covered by the local media, but none were covered by the mainstream media.  This distorts how the public views a firearm in civilian hands.  Hundreds of people might see the local news when a gun owner saves his family, millions of people see the national news if the gun was locked away and the murderer kills the entire family.  Those 21 examples from October are the ones you didn’t hear about where ordinary citizens stopped carjackings, bank robberies, delivery man robberies, and numerous assaults.

Gary – Thank you John Lott.

We only bring you a few of these stories each week, but we wanted our informed listeners to know how many self-defense stories were out there, and how important these stories are.  Thank you for listening.  Please tell a friend.

JOHN- Gun Quotes- A lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right and evil doesn’t become good, just because it is accepted by a majority.  Pastor Rick Warren

John- Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our guest, Don Irvine after this advertisement.

5- Interview 1

Welcome. Don Irvine.  You’re the chairman of Accuracy in Media and its sister organization Accuracy in Academia.  You also started the American Journalism Center and the Center for Investigative Journalism.  Don, I also like that the name of your blog is “On Target”.

Tell us about your organization, Accuracy in Media.

We report on slanted news articles.  Once is an accident, but you see a consistent pattern of bias.

You posted an article in you sister organization calling for the end of “gun free school zones”.

How do you collect and report those stories?

How are you funded?

Where can our listeners learn more about you and your organization?

6- DGUs

6-1 A homeowner living north east of san antonio, Texas had a hard night this week.  There

have been over a dozen burglaries in the area, and many homeowners were spending nervous nights wondering if they would be next in line.  Each robbery involved a thief prying open a back door in the early morning.  This time was different.  This time the homeowner heard the intruder and armed himself.  The thief advanced until he was shot.  The police took the thief into custody and transported him to the local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the groin.  The police also found gloves, a pry bar and a head lamp with a red lens at the crime scene, and the articles did not belong to the homeowner.  Checking with local pawn shops, the thief had pawned a large number of objects in the last few weeks.  It looks like this homeowner stopped a crime wave.

6-2 Three armed and masked thieves entered Longs Jewelry store in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Two of the robbers waved guns around threatening customers and employees.  The third thief stood guard at the front door.  The thieves then smashed the display cases and grabbed the jewelry.  The store is family owned, and one of the managers took his own firearm and fired twice at one of the thieves.  One of the criminals was struck twice.  All the thieves fled, with the injured thief collapsing on the ground outside the store.  The two other criminals were long gone by the time the police arrived.  Medical responders pronounced the wounded criminal dead at the scene.  The dead man had two prior felony convictions for armed robbery in North Carolina.  A spokesman for the local district attorney’s office said the store owner acted in defense of himself and others so no charges would be filed.

Rob- That is a tough problem for a gun owner to solve.

Gary –

John- Also under NC law, the family of the thief cannot sue the jeweler.

6-3 Elderly Man Fires a McLatchy and Scares Off Invaders

Hey, someone actually took vice-president Joe Biden’s advice! An elderly Utah couple opened their door Halloween night, not to a pack of sugar-crazed munchkins, but to four invaders pointing a shotgun and a rifle.  However, the homeowner was no Biden: he had a pistol on him. He drew and put one round — into the ceiling. That warning shot, know as a McLatchy North of the Border, shocked the invaders into dropping their weapons and beating feet. Score one, well: one half, for the homeowner.  He survived, but he does have a hole in his roof.

Gary will tell you that with his warning shot, the homeowner was likely every bit as dumb as Slow-Joe and his advice to “fire two blast outside the house”. Thankfully, the home-invaders were even dumber and panicked themselves into fleeing. If they had been a little smarter – or somehow even dumber – the situation could have quickly turned very bad for the owner.  With four armed thugs inside the home there is absolutely zero time for anything but direct action. The good guy has to immediately start evening the odds, and the criminals holding the shotgun and rifle would be excellent places to start. Wasting precious seconds, some very limited ammunition, and perhaps endangering an innocent in the path of the warning shot was not the thing to do.

Thankfully, it all worked out for the better.  We guess: better lucky than good.

John – There are a lot of good trainers in Utah and I’d suggest some training for this couple.

Paul – A great example of how not to do it.

6-4   Love Beats 911
They say love conquers all — especially when love is armed with a self-defense pistol.  A San Antonio, Texas woman was grabbing her purse from her apartment when three suspects tried to rob her. She called for help – not from 911, but from her boyfriend – who got there a whole lot faster. In the confrontation, one robber was shot in the shoulder and one in the leg.

The suspects escaped by car, but investigators found them lying on the sidewalk at another apartment complex. Naturally, they claimed to be the victims of the robbery. The cops weren’t buying it, and the perforated duo will be charged with aggravated robbery. The boyfriend is not expected to face criminal charges. We suspect he will be rewarded in other ways for his timely and brave actions.

Paul – Call 911 as well!

John – Doesn’t Mas Ayoob always say be the first to call 911?

Rob- We post each of our news and defensive gun use articles at Polite Society Podcast.com  Please take a minute and share them with a friend.

Paul: Rob, do you have any new posts from your SlowFacts blog you want to mention?

Rob- I wrote two articles that I hope interest our listeners.  The first is called “Of Course They Want Our Guns.”  The second is called “What We Know About the Next Mass Murder”  These articles are up at Clash Daily, at Ammoland, and at my blog, slow facts dot wordpress dot com.

John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money.

Last Sunday night I watched 60 Minutes and their report on so-called Smart Guns. It was what one would expect from CBS and the mainstream media. Among the interviewees was NJ State Senator Loretta Weinberg who was the sponsor of New Jersey’s “smart gun law”. Lesley Stahl asked her a lot of questions but it was the one that wasn’t asked that was important. That is, if smart guns are such a good idea and if police officers have often been shot with their own firearms, why is law enforcement specifically excluded from the requirements of that law? The answer is that cops like anyone with a modicum of commonsense don’t trust them to work when they need to work.

That and more is at only guns and money dot blogspot dot com.

Paul – john you are one of the 6 viewers they have left.

Rob- We would like to thank Charlie Foxtrot for writing up show notes for us. Even though you don’t hear him on the air he is certainly part of what you do hear. Look at his blog at not one more gun law dot blogspot dot com
